Public Health Care Guarantee

Danielle Smith, and the United Conservative Party announced the Public Health Guarantee: a commitment to Albertans that the UCP is fully dedicated to Alberta’s publicly-funded health care system.

A UCP government will remain committed to ensuring Albertans have access to world-class health care, where and when they need it, through a publicly funded health care system. Under a re-elected UCP government, no Albertan will ever have to pay for a doctor out of pocket.

“I want to be clear: under the UCP’s Public Health Care Guarantee, we are committing to all Albertans that under no circumstances will any Albertan ever have to pay out-of-pocket to see their family doctor or to get the medical treatment they need,” said UCP Leaders Danielle Smith. “It means that a UCP government, under my leadership, will not de-list any medical services or prescriptions now covered by Alberta Health Insurance. No exceptions.”

The UCP has a very ambitious agenda to improve health care outcomes in Alberta. The strategic reforms we’ve implemented are already working to improve ambulance response times, lower Emergency Department wait times, and address surgery backlogs. The UCP has also made historic investments into health care, specifically in primary care.

“Our UCP government is committed to moving Alberta forward and ensuring Albertans can always access world-class health care, where and when they need it, through a publicly funded health care system. We cannot afford to go back to the NDP raising taxes and driving away jobs and growth, undercutting the critical funding we need to improve healthcare outcomes for Albertans.”

Frontline healthcare workers are the most important resources in our public health system. Their talent and dedication to keeping Albertans healthy, helps make our province stronger. That’s why a UCP government is putting more money into recruiting and training to expand our health workforce, but also supporting and retaining the incredible health workers we already have.

Our focus on improving healthcare for all Albertans includes historic investments in primary care because every Albertan deserves a family doctor. It’s also why our UCP government is working to create thousands of new university spaces to educate and train more nurses, doctors and other healthcare workers right here at home. A re-elected UCP government will continue to ensure Albertans have public access to a family doctor and that no Albertan will ever have to pay out of pocket to see them.

As we continue to invest and innovate, to deliver on the reforms needed to move Alberta’s health care system forward, we will only look to add new listed publicly funded health services. We will not de-list any health services currently available.

Alberta cannot afford to go back. We cannot afford to go back to the NDP making life more expensive by raising taxes and making promises they just can’t keep. Their high-tax, anti-growth policies will raise taxes and drive away jobs and growth, undercutting the critical funding we need to keep our health care system running.

We need to keep moving Alberta forward. The United Conservative Party will ensure Albertans can access world-class health care, where and when they need it. In Alberta, you will never need a credit card to access health care. You will never pay for a doctor out of pocket. That’s our Public Health Guarantee.
