Janis Nett

Secretary

Biography

It has been an extremely tough year for the members and the party as a whole and with the promising economic recovery we see before us, I know we can turn this around. I fought for unity back in 2017 and I am ready for the challenge again. It is time to restore the trust and the confidence back into this party. Together we are stronger.

I am a United Conservative Party volunteer looking to fulfill the elected role of Secretary for the provincial party. Currently I am serving as Red Deer North Secretary and as a director on the Red Deer South board. I was a strong supporter of unity and I was delighted when the party came to be in July 2017. Since then I served the UCP in many different volunteer roles ranging from constituency President, Director, and Local Constituency Nomination Committee (LCNC) Chair and as the Returning Officer for the Red Deer North Nomination event in 2018. I have a healthy work-life balance and clearly see this role as a priority, and as such, I have the time and resources to attend to this position.

First and foremost, we need to stop the infighting. The provincial board needs to be a strong and united front. A board that models unity and solidarity. The provincial board needs members with critical and sober judgement who are willing to put their differences aside, and look at what we have in common and not fixate on our differences. Collectively we have one goal: re-election in 2023.

Less talk and more action. We need to highlight and celebrate the accomplishments this party has made in over two years. Media will never give us this positive coverage. It is up to us. As an elected board member, I pledge to you that I will work collaboratively with communications, fundraising, membership and regional directors-all in the effort to bring Albertan’s back to the conservative movement. The secretary position also has an integral role with the PPGC. Robust policies are what drives this party forward. I have a profound interest in policy and an academic background in policy development and analysis.

There will be a leadership review in 2022 and whatever the outcome, we need to stand united and support the leader, the upcoming candidates, and the incumbents if we want to see a United Conservative majority government in 2023. There is a lot of work to do and my promise to you is that I am ready to serve you.
