Sonia Kont

VP Fundraising

Biography

Born in eastern Turkey, Sonia is a proud Canadian of Kurdish heritage. Sonia has strong agriculture roots. Before moving to Alberta, her family farmed grain and raised sheep on their multi-generational farm. 

Sonia has been volunteering and doorknocking since the age of 14. While at University of Calgary, Sonia was active on campus taking leadership roles in the Conservative Campus Club and several non-profit organizations. Sonia was the past President of the PC Youth of Alberta, where she advocated for the next generation of leaders and later was a member of the negotiating team between the Wildrose and PC Party, which helped create a framework for the United Conservative Party of Alberta (UCP). Sonia also served as a director and chaired the communications committee on the UCP’S founding board. She has volunteered and worked on dozens of political campaigns, including as a campaign manager for MLA Sonya Savage and MP Stephanie Kusie.

Sonia is passionate about good governance. Previously, she served as Alberta’s director with Equal Voice Canada. Sonia works in the private sector as government relations/policy consultant. 

Sonia is currently on her third term as the VP of Fundraising for the UCP. She deeply cares about the unity of the UCP and looks forward to helping the party succeed in the next election against Rachel Notley and the NDP. 

Outside work and politics, Sonia is an enthusiastic mountain climber and enjoys being outdoors.
