In the last election, United Conservatives promised to maintain record levels of education spending, with no overall cuts to spending.
And that’s just what we did before the COVID-19 crisis hit.
Nevertheless, the NDP claim that the education system has seen massive cuts and widespread layoffs.
Here are the facts:
- Our education system had no cuts in spending year over year, just as promised
- To help support our schools to respond to the COVID-19 crisis, the education system received a $276 million injection of cash from Alberta’s United Conservative government
- That doesn’t include access to increased capital funds
- That doesn’t include the $262 million in funding from the federal government that was distributed to school boards
