Become a UCP Candidate
process
FAQS & documents
Yes, you must be a current member of the UCP and you must have been a member for, at minimum, the six (6) consecutive months immediately prior to the date a Nomination Contest is opened. You may request a waiver to this requirement – see the Candidate Selection Rules for the process.
To become a UCP Candidate you must first win a Nomination Contest in a constituency. Click the “Process” button above for more information on how Nomination Contests work.
Not before the Nomination Contest begins. As soon as possible after the close of membership sales, the Party will provide Nomination Contestants with a list of those eligible to vote in the Contest. The Party does not provide a membership list at any other time.
To prove their eligibility to vote, voters must provide photo identification and identification that proves they ordinarily live in the constituency where the Nomination Contest is taking place.
For example: a person can vote with a driver’s license that has their current residential address.
Or, they can vote using their passport AND a separate document that provides their name and current residential address, such as a utility bill or a bank statement.
The Returning Officer has the discretion to waive this requirement in exceptional circumstances.
You can run in any constituency that does not have a nomination UCP Candidate.
UCP Nominations begin at the direction of the Executive Director of the Party in consultation with the local Regional Directors. To begin a contest, the Party will notify active UCP members in a constituency via email and post a notice on the Party website.
