Voter Survey | Citizen Initiative Act

We need your feedback!

We’re putting power directly in the hands of Albertans. Under the Citizen Initiative Act, Albertans will have power to trigger an issue for consideration or a referendum for Alberta’s government. The act would mean an Albertan would first need to apply to the chief electoral officer to begin a petition initiative and have 90 days to gather signatures. On a legislative or policy initiative, a successful campaign requires 10 per cent of signatures from voters. On a constitutional issue, it requires 20 per cent of signatures from voters across two thirds of Alberta’s constituencies. It’s a promise made, promise kept, and just one of the several bold democratic reforms implemented under Alberta’s United Conservative government.
